Partner or spouse: Alan Robert Carter, born 3 June 1960 in Portsmouth. Margaret met him at a social evening at Fareham Civic Hall on 17 October 1980. They married at Fareham Register Office on 12 May 1984. Alan worked in telecommunications, first for Post Office Telecommunications and later for BT. He died suddenly on 18 December 2021.

Margaret meets Alan at a social evening in Fareham, where careful dancing leads to a telephone call and a first date.

Margaret and Alan marry at Fareham Register Office and begin married life in a flat still filled with boxes.

Current home: A two-bedroom bungalow in Emsworth, bought with Alan in 2004. Margaret has lived there alone since Alan's death in 2021.

Margaret and Alan buy a used red Chevette after George inspects it and offers the nearest thing he gives to approval.

Margaret and Alan settle into their first married home, a compact Fareham flat with second-hand furniture and a coin-operated laundry.

Margaret and Alan leave the Fareham flat for a three-bedroom house in Havant, taking on a mortgage and room to expand.

A visit to see a litter of kittens ends with the family bringing home a tabby named Mabel.

Margaret and Alan move from their Havant house to a smaller bungalow in Emsworth as their children become more independent.

Children: Claire Louise Carter, born 28 March 1986, and Michael Alan Carter, born 11 July 1989. Claire later married Simon Bennett and works as a physiotherapy assistant. Michael works in building maintenance and lives with Leanne Price.
